Loiacono scores 5, Tigers return to County Final

There would be no need for any overtime sessions this time.

The Northport Tigers Boys Lacrosse Team will make a third straight appearance in the Suffolk County title game after their 13-4 beatdown of arch enemy Ward Melville on Wednesday.

In a raucous Ward Melville Stadium where the home student body was dressed in all white and both sets of fans screamed at every tiny bit of action on the field.

And when Patriot sniper Nikolas Barbero opened the scoring, the home crowd went bananas. Their euphoria wouldn’t last long.

Northport would score 13 of the next 16 goals and dominate the game territorially for much of the summery afternoon.

All around superstar and future Army Cadet Andrew Miller raced up the field and scored a tumbling goal to tie the score after Barbaro’s opening salvo. The onslaught was on.

Freshman Luke Loiacono scored five goals and junior middie Luca Elmaleh would net three – one of which was a cunning, behind-the-back maneuver from in close to beat WM goalkeeper Charlie Giachetti. Northport would lead 6-3 at halftime, getting a late one from Elmaleh that rattled around the pipes and in past Giachetti.

On the opposite end, Tiger Goalkeeper was quite busy protecting his crease and making saves from in close. Tittman, whose name was chanted vociferously from the Northport faithful every time he stopped the Patriots, stopped 12 shots

Logan Cash, a sophomore, scored two goals, Jack Deliberti and Giancarlo Valenti would also tally.  It e=was Valenti who beat Ward Melville in overtime in Northport two and a half weeks ago, that set up the Tigers as the third seed in this playoff tournament. The Tigers will face Smithtown East, who upset number one seed Connetquot on Wednesday.  This game will be played at Stony Brook on May 31 at 5:30 PM for all the marbles in Suffolk. The winner will play for the LI Championship against the Nassau champ.
